Tomorrow sees the start of ‘Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya’ aka the Barcelona MotoGP 2011. I was at the Catalunya track last year in the blazing sun to see Jorge Lorenzo take first place, the Spanish crowds went wild as he finished the cross line, but can he do it for the Spanish a second time round? Lorenzo has had a great year or so, finishing in the top four in the last 24-races. Not bad! Only Valentino Rossi has beaten that record, finishing top three in 28 successive races.
Jorge Lorenzo was in the heart of Barcelona yesterday to promote MotoGP and the Catalunya GP to an already loyal and bike racing mad Spanish crowd. Here he simulated a race start out the famous Sagrada Famillia, on his Factory Yamaha YZR-M1, with a large crowd of tourists who all look quite confused about the whole thing!

I am the newest member of the Fasttrack Team and after 26 years I am now a motorbike ‘road rider’. I’ve got 2-stroke oil in my blood, my family are all bike riders and I’ve been riding for nearly as long as i’ve been able to walk! I remember riding my first motorbike on Victoria Park, Leicester in about 1988! Since then i’ve done a bit of off road riding here and there but never took it any further… until now.
I bought myself an Aprilia Habana Custom 125 in baby blue (yes I’m telling you the colour, it’s important to set the scene) ok, I know it’s girly and cute and retro but I love it! Not only am I completely in love with my new tow wheels but I have fallen head-over-heels in love with riding again. As a kid I used to love the feeling tearing through whatever field or abandoned waste land my dad could find. Now I have totally got that feeling back, ok, so riding down my local bypass isn’t quite the same thing but the feelings I get from it are. I’m sure you all know what i’m talking about, my heart beat raises, I have a huge grin on my face which definitely looks slightly insane to other road users, I feel completely exhilarated and for some reason just a bit naughty! It’s definitely more exciting that driving my old Fiat Punto down that bypass!
Why does it feel so exciting? Is it the wind in my hair? The little smug feeling I get when I nip to the front in a traffic queue? That I know that it’s just a little bit dangerous? Riding on the road is new to me? I don’t know what it is, probably a combination of all these and more. But there’s one thing I know, I WANT MORE! I’m already wondering when I can do my full license and contemplating what motorbike I could have in future (I am pretty limited though as I have such short legs!)
I am doubtlessly hooked on two-wheels. So now I am just looking forward to finishing work, getting on my bike and riding the long way home in the sunshine… happy days!

Dunno. Looks to me like someone’s fed my old SS50 some steroids. I certainly don’t think BMW will be trembling at the prospect of this as competition to their GS Adventurer, do you?
